Applications for the Nebraska Innovation Fund (NIF) Prototype Grants are open now for Nebraska-based businesses searching to take their business tech from a napkin sketch to a full-blown prototype.
At Volano Software, we are highly familiar with this program. In 2023, we were awarded the matching grant for our software product called ActionCard (you could say we know the process well). Our experience in building software can help you estimate the grant funding needs, list key MVP requirements, design, develop and get your software product to market.

A mobile and desktop software app for multi-unit operations that drives consistency and quality across all locations through Review and Checklist tools for all levels of operations.. ActionCard allows managers to audit their locations with a flexible review process. Store employees have a concise checklist for opening, closing, and everything in between. The Review features allow all levels of the business to report on the health of the storefront, the cleanliness of the business, and the standards of goods and services.
Multi-unit businesses of all varieties. ActionCard is utilized in Convenience Stores, Restaurants, and Franchise Operations.

We hop on a phone call to learn about your project (build or rebuild). You tell us your goals and your desired outcomes and move on to the next phase.
High-level Estimate (for the grant)
We meet with you to gather requirements, possibly provide sketches, and send within about 1-2 weeks. The state will require a document showcasing what you’re going to build and how much funding it will take.
Discovery & Development (future-states)
After you’re awarded, we perform a deep-dive discovery (paid) to build a highly confident estimate (90–95%). After that, we begin the designing and building process.
