Volano Summer Interns 2024: Wrapped

August 21, 2024

Fall is nearly here. That means students return to school, parents settle into their routines, and summer vacations are distant memories.

It also means that the Volano Summer Internship Program is now a wrap. Our two summer interns, Daniel and Micah have packed up and returned to their Fall Semester of school. Before they left, we asked them to share a few highlights.

Daniel Kasparek
University of Lincoln, Computer Science Major.

Daniel’s takeaways:

  • A lot of what I built was for clients not for our company specifically and it was cool to see the variety.
  • Culture is more good vibes than a lot of other companies—good people.
  • I learned more about problem-solving with coding, solving more complex problems than I thought I would.
  • Dalton and Don would provide feedback about what they wanted, they would explain things including why. It was great.

Micah Vasek
University of Omaha, Computer Science

Micah’s Takeaways

  • College is more about the theory and practice of coding and various isolated topics. Working is much more about working on a project collaboratively, recording and keeping track of your work, and communicating.
  • It’s amazing to see how different working an actual developer job is from what I was taught in school.
  • The more casual work environment was enjoyable.

We had a blast. They had a blast. During the summer internship, our two developer interns worked alongside a few different team members. This helped each intern gain real-world experience in different working styles and different client needs. We had them working on our time tracking tool we custom built, called Timefly, and our SaaS product called, ActionCard as well as other various client tickets and tasks.
