Rod Smith divides his time among leadership, sales, finance, and facilities management. (He picks up a mop once in awhile.)
Day to day, he is making the best possible decisions for Volano and our clients.
Before co-founding Volano, Rod was a contract software developer for a technology company. The company did not have enough work for him, so he moonlighted on side projects with Volano co-founder Don Stavneak. And the rest is history.
Rod is a huge music fan and self-proclaimed “guitar nerd” who buys and sells guitars. Some of his favorite bands include Black Sabbath, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, and Def Leppard. If you walk into Volano and hear English, guitar-driven, rock ‘n roll music, you know Rod has taken over the playlist.
Putting his software engineer brain to use outside of the office, Rod can also wire a house, rebuild an engine, and juggle, among other skills. He has served as a coach for First Lego League Robotics and is also active in the Lewis Central Education Foundation.
Rod and his wife, Office Manager Jill Smith, have three daughters: Addison, Anika, and Averie. Their dog, Zuri, comes to Volano with Jill most days. The family enjoys boating together in the summer.
I love getting to be part of so many different businesses.
